Term 3 Enviroday
What an action-packed Enviroday! First up, with the
assistance of Mr Barratt, we learnt the right way to plant a tree which we planted
along the field fence line. Next, all of Room O got stuck into our large
garden, with varying levels of energy – some of the students are gardening
machines! After morning tea, the students demonstrated their crafty side and
made some magnificent pine cone birds. For lunch, the class made tasty filled
rolls with ingredients coming from home and school. These looked delicious! After
lunch we learnt about the NZ Fairy Tern, watching a mini documentary and doing
an activity related to this. Did you know there are only 40 of them left in the
world? Before the bell we visited the nursery where Room N students did a great
job sharing the new bird aviary and details about its inhabitants. Thank you to
Mrs Reay and Ms Carter for your Enviroday help!

Fabulous Character Costumes
As part of Book Week Room O (and the rest
of MSS) had the opportunity to dress up and impersonate their favourite book
character. In usual Room O fashion the students went all out and turned up with
impressive costumes, props and in-character personalities. Well done!
Kitchener Park Wetland Field Trip
Here we are on a visit to Kitchener Park
as part of our unit on wetlands. We did lots of interesting activities, learnt new
information and had a fantastic time! The activities shown in the pictures are
invertebrate catching and identification, water quality assessments, water
temperature measurement, water clarity measuring, algae identification and talks
to the students by Gavin Scott, the parks custodian. Thank you to the parents
for all your help and to Gavin Scott for his part in our field trip.
