Liquefaction Experiment
This was a cool experiment we carried out at lunch time. Interested in the liquefaction we had seen occurring after the Christchurch earthquake we tried to simulate it using a model. Some of us had some good explanations of how it worked – the soil compresses and compresses until it is completely saturated with water and as you can’t compress water the soil turns to mush.
It was quite exciting watching the solid soil (compacted sand) suddenly turn to mush and the buildings and vehicles start to sink.
Rugby World Cup
Here we are visiting the Webb Ellis Cup right here in Feilding. Some weren’t that interested and others quietly stood back and admired it. Quite interesting.

Enviro Day
Here are a couple of pictures from Wednesday’s Enviro Day. One of the pics show us working busily in our Room O garden. The other picture is of our decorated pots in which we planted Kowhai seeds. We had to scrape the outer layer of the seed (scarification) to allow water to enter so the seed would germinate. This is to mimic nature as the outer layer would be eroded as the kowhai seeds pass through a bird or are washed down stream.

Dot plot graph of the times Rm O and their families opened the fridge
Room O collected data on when our households open the fridge. We found out that the fridge was most frequently opened at 7am and also at 5 pm; that it wasn't opened between 11pm and 4 am; and that someone has to get up at 4am (because they open the fridge then).

Sport/Exercise Investigations
We have been busy carrying out investigations around sports and exercise. We decided to investigate: ‘How far can Rm O kick a rugby ball’ ‘How many push ups can Rm O do in 1 minute’ ‘How many kart wheels can Rm O do in 1 minute’ ‘Skips in 1 minute’ and ‘Shooting hoops in 1 minute. We made posters to display our information. The poster had to include the aim of our investigation, suitable graphs to display the information and a summary of what we found out.

Room O's Name Self Portraits
Here are some of Room O's Name Self Portraits. The objective with these was to display our name using a format that tells others about ourselves and our interests.
They speak for themselves...
