Dennis
the turtle
We have got a class turtle named Dennis.
As turtle monitors we get to clean, walk and feed him. We must do this duty
Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. It is a
big responsibly and takes considerable time. We feed him for 10 to 15 minutes so he doesn't over eat… Every now and then we have to
clean his tank with a special tube to siphon all the shell and poo out of the
tank so it is nice and clean for him to swim in.
Dennis is a very
important part of Room O. Dennis has a hard dark green shell. He is a
very large turtle. Dennis is a
red eared turtle but the red has faded over time so there is no more red on his
face.
Dennis is 20 years
old - WOW that’s old!!!!! He is expected to live to around 40.
Dennis is a friend
to every one in Room O and the worms we feed him for lunch J When we get him out of his
tank we have to hold him like a hamburger but we don’t eat him J When we feed him we have
to get lettuce, worms, snails and turtle food.
We enjoy having him in the class even if he is a loud turtle during some
points of the day.
We got Dennis
given to us by Miss Palmer’s mum along with the rest of the gear. He likes being in the sun all the time along
with being in the water.
