Fantastic Foxton 2014 and Fantastic Foxton Friday

Fantastic Foxton 2014

Wow it’s much cloudier than Feilding - I think it’s gonna rain! Ah, here we are at the fire station, we’re probably lining up over there? Room O in first… wow there are so many trophies, everyone’s wondrously looking at all these awesome awards and the TV... Now we all sit down and the life-guards talk about themselves and explain what they do. Now we all gather round to watch the surf life saving movie… are we there yet? I'm thinking in my head as they try and get the TV working... I think you need morning tea before we fix the TV and we can play some games. So games it was.

First we played sea-weed, next we went to have morning-tea and then the surf life saving movie that had all the information about signs, what to watch out for and all about being safe around the beach… Now we’re off to the beach.

When we get there practically everyone’s there. “Ok, first goal - don’t get sand all over my hands and sandals.” Next me and Nathan go to find a log or something to sit on so my bottom doesn't get sandy! And what do I do first? Accidentally get my hands sandy... After we've had our lunch we went into the shed full of all the life-guards equipment. Now she (the lifeguard) tells us about why they carry knives in the boat. She said, “What we do with the knives is we blunt them first so it won’t pop the boat, and also we use it for if some see-weed is caught in the motor - we’ll be able to cut it straight off, so shall we bring it out… “YES” everyone chanted so we had a look at that then we went into the water.

So we were in the ocean for ages then after awhile we hopped out and got dressed in the so-called cramped toilet/ mini changing rooms. Now all that’s left to do is get driven back to school.

Fantastic Foxton Friday

Finally, the awesome day has come once and for all! I was in the best car in the whole world; Tutu Manuel’s car. It was a very loud ride - we turned the volume up loud. We finally got to the Fire Station.

WOW in the hall way there were some awesome photos of some rescues the fire fighters did in the past year. After that, we were going to watch a movie on how to be safe at the beach but they couldn’t get the TV going so we went out to morning-tea and played sea weed.

They called us in because they (Mr Ward) got the TV going. The movie had all of these different signs. In the movie I have never seen this one sign in my whole life on a beach; it is a sign with a shark on the front.

After we zoomed off to Foxton Beach! Our group had our delicious lunch on a humongous log. After we had our lunch we had to do some exercises before we raced into the water. After we did the exercises, we had a long running race and I won the raceJ. After we had the race the senior team went into the freezing cold water. BBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, the water was as cold as a packet of ice! One of the life guards told us to start duck diving under the waves. So Kade, Oliver, Jack, Devon and I tried to beat the waves back to shore. If you look from a bird’s eye view the parents would have looked like a horse shoe.

When we had to get out of the water, I got out of the water by doing belly flops and duck dives. I had to wait about 10 minuets for the changing rooms to be free so I could get changed. Finally I got changed. After I got changed we zoomed off to school.

Embarking on a Dangerous Mission

As part of Statistics, Room O must test out paper planes in the hall. We will record the flight distances, and bring the planes back to make a Dot Plot/ Scatter Graph. We used all sorts of paper sizes (A2,A3,A4 and A5).   We line up and ‘3…2…1…0!’MrWard yells out.Vooosh!!!!!!!!!!! The planes soar off the stage, and we measure the flight distance. Armed with our data, we ran back to class to create the graph.

A5 Distances: 3m,2m, 4m,4m,4.8m,5.6m.
A4 Distances:3.1m,4.2m,4.9m,5m,8.2m,9.5m.
A3 Distances:5m,8m,8.1m,9m,12.2m.
A2 Distances:3.2m,5m,6m,7m,7m,6.1m.
We then got Austen to work all the averages out. When that was done, we created the graph in our Maths book.

Mission Complete!
